SERVICE & MAINTENANCE CONTRACTS MANAGER
Charlotte Broady
I oversee the day to day running of our Service and Maintenance department. We service and maintain heating systems for multiple Housing Associations and private customers as well as our own Failsafe plan. This includes Domestic gas boilers, LPG boilers, Oil boilers, Warm air units & Unvented cylinders.
I started at Hewer in 2016 as an office administrator and worked on a few small insurance projects, a few years later I took over our Failsafe and Private customers, then in 2020 I was promoted to Team leader and took on our biggest contract along with our Failsafe and Private customers. In 2021 I was promoted to Contracts Manager. Hewer is a great company to work for and has provided me with adequate training to help me progress to where I am now.
GAS ENGINEER
Lee Sheilds MBE
Having served as an Infantry soldier for 24 years and reaching the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1 (RSM), it was stick or twist time for me. Do I go for a commission as a late entry officer and stay in the Army for another 10 years or look for a new career outside of the military. The latter being my preferred choice, i set about getting qualified to be a domestic gas engineer via the Armed Forces resettlement scheme. This was where Hewer FM really came into its own and through a family friend who already worked for the company, they agreed in allowing me to complete my portfolio on the Vivo contract side of the company. Around 18 months later and having passed my domestic ACS, I was fortunate enough to be offered a position within the company as a Gas Engineer, which i gladly accepted. I’ve been employed by the company since Nov 23, so coming on for 10 months now and haven’t looked back.
The team at Hewer FM have been fantastic, I have learnt so much from the vast array of knowledge and experience of those Engineers already working for the company and all the help and support from the scheduling team. That was the key for me, there is always something to learn in this industry and if you don’t know something, one of the other Engineers will know it and gladly help you. I can’t thank Hewer FM enough in helping me transition into civilian street and start my new career.
I am really enjoying the job and career choice i have made, having come from the construction industry as a qualified joiner (prior to the Army), the hand on approach suits me just fine. I think the highlight for me is the teamwork and togetherness, everyone is prepared to help one another and get things done in a professional manner.
My qualifications – CENWAT, HTR1, CKR1, MET1, Unvented Cylinder
ELECTRICAL CONTRACTS MANAGER
Jade Myers
I have been with Hewer FM for 9 years, starting in July 2015. I started as an administration apprentice and worked my way up to currently being an electrical contracts manager. During this time, I have gone from an apprentice to administrator to office manager to now contracts manager – managing the administration team and their daily duties. Over the years, I have worked within the electrical department and both commercial mechanical departments which has allowed me to grow my knowledge of smaller & larger contract scales, the way they run and the background work behind them, I have gained knowledge of the different industries and built relationships with colleagues around the whole business.
I like how it is a family run business which is reflected down through all the departments, nobody is seen as just a number here and there is potential for growth and a career. It is a friendly, working environment where not just individual department teams, but everyone works together to resolve any issues which arise, I always feel supported by my colleagues and my department manager.

APPRENTICE GAS ENGINEER
John Gibbons
I had a tough time getting a job at the start of my plumbing and heating career. I had been shipped around by a few smaller one-man bands and companies until Hewers got back to me and I went in for an interview. Luckily, I was offered the job and started with the Commercial Service and Maintenance team back in February 2021. We were a smaller team back then and I was often off with the engineers helping where possible but mostly asking lots of questions and taking in what I could. I occasionally helped the domestic team which involved going to jobs alone and fixing leaks, hanging radiators or changing valves etc. This helped me grow my knowledge, experience and confidence at the domestic level which then helped with my college course.
I’ve been attending Gloucestershire college on a day release once a week for the past 3 years, building up to completing my portfolio and Gas Safe Qualifications. I am sitting my gas exams soon and once I’ve finished my
portfolio; I’ll be a qualified domestic Gas and Heating engineer. 12 more months in the industry and I can then sit my commercial course to get that ticket too.
Hewers has been a great company to work for over these years and I am very grateful for being given the chance to prove myself and get qualified. We’ve grown as a department a lot since I started and so I’ve had to adapt quickly to the different systems and sites that we cover but the engineers, supervisors, office staff and manager I work with have been a great support for me. There’s always someone at the end of the phone if ever needed and they’re always willing to help and show great patience. We’ve just taken on another apprentice and I’m sure he’ll be treated the same.
Now I’m coming close to the end of my course I’m excited for the future, I’m hoping to keep learning and growing my experience in the industry. The company seems like its constantly moving forward and I’m looking forward to moving with it.
